Grant Writing Tips

Do have a positive tone. Do make sure the narrative is interesting to read and user friendly.
Do use a reader-friendly font style and size. Do write in active voice.
Do prepare adequate support material, relevant to the project. Do talk about the details of the project.
Do answer every question (even if only to write "not applicable"). Do not assume the readers are familiar with your organization or your project.
Do not resubmit past successful applications or repeat the same narrative from another application. Do make sure your budget revenue amounts are realistic and achievable.
Do balance your project budget (Total Cash Income = Total Cash Expenses) Do know and understand the matching requirements for receiving funds.
Do make sure you itemize and identify expenses. Do submit a professional-looking application.
Do proofread the application. Do have someone unfamiliar with the project read your application to ensure that your project is clearly described.
Do keep copies of your application. Do make sure your application is postmarked on or before the grant deadline.
Do attend the panel review meeting if open to the public.
