DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic on Assignment as a Lead Mechanic is responsible for performing all the duties of the Heavy Equipment Mechanic and supervising 6 employees, coordinating their daily work load and training them as required. Additional requirements include service writing, securing parts from the supply room or Central Stores, keeping a proper parts inventory, diagnosing problems, and preparing and maintaining the necessary records and reports. This employee needs a high degree of tact and diplomacy in getting along with people within the department as well as people from other departments. This assignment differs from the Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the supervisory and people-related skills required and the administrative requirements not normally expected of a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
