Spring Water Safety Instructor Class Schedule

Are you looking for a great summer job?  Sign up today to find out more about becoming a lifeguard for the City of Phoenix. 

We’re looking for responsible people 15 years of age or older, with a positive attitude.  We’ll teach you the rest!

What Lifeguards Do:
Lifeguards provide supervision and instruction of various age groups in swimming and diving activities.  Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of people in the swimming area.  They also:

  • Prevent and respond to emergency situations;
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations for the safety and convenience of the public;
  • Perform rescues and administer artificial respiration, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and first aid;
  • Check the proper maintenance of the equipment and sanitation of pools and bathhouse facilities;
  • Provide positive experiences and deliver excellent customer service to the community

What Lifeguards Earn:

How to Become a Lifeguard:
Get certified!  Register for a lifeguard training class today at www.phoenix.gov/parks

Lifeguard Training Class Prerequisites:
Must be 15 years old prior to the last day of class, be able to swim 300 yards non-stop (100 yds front crawl, 100 yds breaststroke, 100 yds front crawl or breast stroke): Swim 20 yards and retrieve a ten pound brick from a depth of 10 feet and swim it 20 yards to the starting point within one minute and forty seconds. If assistance is required on any stroke or skill, please see the instructor prior to the first day of class. This class teaches lifeguarding skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.

This class will certify the participant for 3 years in Lifeguard Training and Community First Aid and 1 year in CPR/AED for the Lifeguard.

Those that successfully complete the class will earn a three-year Lifeguard certification and be eligible to apply for positions next summer at city pools.
